If You’re Over 50 – You Need To Be Strength Training!

At Form Fitness a lot of our personal training clientele come to us in their 50’s. The importance of strength training for this demographic cannot be understated. In fact, our personal trainers focus predominantly on strength training as it directly relates to their everyday health, quality of life and longevity.

Osteoporosis, literally “porous bone,” is thinning of the framework inside bones leading to a much higher risk of breaking a bone. Even a minor bump into furniture may cause a fracture. The most common areas of fracture are the hips, wrists and spine.

Keeping your bones strong is a smart goal at any age. But a fracture-proof frame becomes a bigger priority after age 50. Fortunately, there are plenty of steps you can take…

From about age 25 to age 50, bone density tends to stay stable with equal amounts of bone formation and bone breakdown. However After age 50, bone breakdown (resorption) outpaces bone formation and bone loss often accelerates, particularly at the time of menopause.

One of the best ways to combat this is through weight bearing physical exercise.
Physical exercise has been shown to stimulate the re-modelling that keeps bone strong.

At Form Fitness, we pride ourselves on being able to provide personal training sessions tailored to our clients at every stage in their lives. Most of our client’s actually come to us later in life, there is no better time to start training than now.

If you or someone you know is in need of help with their training give us a call. We are based on the North Shore, our personal training facility is Pymble but we are only a stone throw away from Wahroonga, St Ives, Turramurra, Gordon, Northwood, St, Leonards, Chatswood, Roseville, Longueville, Riverview, North Ryde and Killara.
